Christopher Tolkien dies, aged 95

Post by Peregrine »

Christopher J. R. Tolkien, son of J. R. R. Tolkien, has died aged 95. He spent much of his life managing his father's literary legacy, including publishing The Silmarillion, The History of Middle-earth, and most recently, Beren and Lúthien (which he said he expected to be his last book) and The Fall of Gondolin (which actually was his last). He didn't only work on J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth stories, also editing for publication such works as The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún and Beowulf: A Translation and Commentary. Prior to becoming his father's literary executor, he published some scholarly works or translations of his own on Norse legends.
